Procedure for Admission
Candidates seeking admission to different Post-Graduate Courses in Arts, may apply for
registration ONLINE:
2. Eligibility Conditions:
Candidates desirous of seeking admission to M.A. Courses must fulfil the requisite conditions of
having passed the examinations with the prescribed percentage of marks as detailed in
Appendix – I.
If the course is not equivalent to Delhi University such candidates would be required to fill up the
prescribed equivalence form along with all documents and a copy of authenticated syllabus of
the University from which he/she has passed the examination.
(i) Rounding off a fraction of marks for purposes of admission to any Course is not admissible.
(ii) Candidates who do not fulfill the eligibility requirements shall not be registered and no request for
relaxation in the minimum eligibility requirement shall be entertained.
(iii) Candidates who have passed their B.A.(Hons) or equivalent examination under 10+2+3 Scheme
of examination of Delhi University or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto, if eligible
would be registered to the M.A. Arts Courses for the Academic Session 2014-2015 under direct
admission. Other students have to appear in the Entrance Exam for admission. Candidates are
advised to peruse the information provided for each subject about the minimum marks required
for eligibility.
However, the candidates having passed their first degree examination prior to 1985 will be
treated as per with the present three years degree course. (A.C. Resolution No. 137 dated
23.03.1993).
Further, where the applicants have done their graduation under 14 years scheme but have M.A.
first year/LL.B./B.E. (Degree) etc. Examination after graduation, they will be deemed to have put
in 15 years of study but their eligibility be determined on the basis of marks obtained at the
qualifying Examination (A.C. Resolution No. 034 (6) dt. 21.05.1992).
(iv) If any irregularity is detected after declaration of merit list/issue of Admission card, before or after
depositing the Fee, the admission of such candidates will be cancelled without any reference to
him/her.
3. Evening Classes
The following M.A. Courses are also taught in the Evening Classes in the Main Campus.

Candidate seeking admission to Evening Classes are required to produce a certificate of
employment and work experience of atleast one year from anyone of the following.
1. Government Office
2. Public Undertakings
3. Statutory/Autonomeus Bodies of the Central/StateGovernment
4. Private Limited Companies

4. Enrolment in the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB)
(i) There will be a common online registration for the candidates apllying for admission under
Category -II i.e. through entrance test.
(ii) For admission under Category-I, i.e. 'Direct Admission', the candidates shall register
themselves for admission separately.
5. Enrolment in the School of Open Learning (SOL):
(i) There will be common online registration for the candidates applying for admission under
Category -II i.e. through entrance test.
(ii) For admission under Category-I, i.e. 'Direct Admission', the candidates shall register
themselves for admission separately.
6. Admission for Foreign Students:
Foreign students seeking admission to various courses are required to apply to the Foreign
Students’ Advisor/ Foreign Students’ Registry, University of Delhi, Delhi 7, who will process
their applications for admissions in the Colleges/Departments directly.
7. Reservation of seats for the Childern/Widows/Wives of the officers and Men of the Armed
Forces including Para Military personnel killed or disabled in action:
5% of the total number of seats in each course are reserved for the Children/Widows/Wives of
the Officers and Men of the Armed Forces including Para Military Personnel (i) Killed in action,
(ii) Disabled in action, (iii) Died while on duty, (iv) Disabled on duty and (v) Wards of Ex-
servicemen personnel and serving personnel of the Defence/Armed Forces and all Police Forces
who are in receipt of Gallantry Awards.
Relaxation to the extent of 5% marks in the minimum eligibility requirement in the aggregate or in
the subject as the case may be, will be given to the candidates of the above mentioned
categories while determining their eligibility for admission to appear in admission test.
In order to become eligible for the above concession, Children/Widow/Wives of Officers and
Jawans etc. are required to produce the entitlement certificates issued by any of the following:
1. Secretary, Kendriya Sainik Board, Delhi
2. Secretary, Rajay/Zila Sainik Board
3. Officer-in-charge, Record Office

For purposes of registration, the candidates are required to submit their application forms on a
prescribed form available at the Registration Centers, along with the self attested copies as well
as the original of the required certificates. The original certificates will be returned to them after
verification.
8. ADMISSION OF SPORTS/ECA PERSONS
Upto 5% seats of the total number of seats of courses in all the disciplines, except the courses of
Faculities of Medicine, Engineering, Technology and Management Studies of the University shall
be reserved for admission under the sports category at the Post-Graduate level.
Students seeking admission under the sports/Eca category shall apply directly to the DUSC. The
DUSC shall organize trials in different games and sports and declare the list of candidates
eligible for admission under the sports category.
The students seeking admission under the sports category will be required to take the entrance
examination, if any, to be conducted by the Department/Institution/Centre concerned. However,
the Department/Institute/Centre shall prepare a separate merit list of candidates seeking
admission under the sports category on the basis of the result of the entrance examination.

9. Residential/Hostel Accomodation
All candidates seeking admission to hostel in the University are required to appear in the
entrance test even if they are eligible for admission under direct category. The merit list to the
Hostels will be drawn solely on the basis of performance in the entrance test.
The University has limited residential accommodation in Colleges and University Hostels. The
Colleges provide accommodation to both Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate students enrolled
with them. In the Main Campus the following colleges provide Hostel accommodation to their
students:
1 For Men
St. Stephen’ College, Hindu College, Hans Raj College, Kirori Mal College, Ramjas College, Shri
Ram College of Commerce and Zakir Husain Delhi College.
2 For Women
Miranda House, Daulat Ram College and I.P. College.
3 For Men and Women-
Delhi School of Social Work (Deptt. of Social Work) and Central Institute of Education (Deptt. of
Education)
4 For Post-Graduate, M.Phil. and Ph.D. students of different Faculties (in Main and South Campus)
except those Faculties which have their own Hostels are considered for admission to the
following University Hostels:

epigraphy shall be given weightage of 5% Marks in Mimum Eligibility Requirements.

The candidates pertaining to different categories are required to obtain following minimum qualifying
marks in the Entrance Exam for Admission to M.A. (Buddhist Studies):

After the Entrance Exam, a merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks secured by the candidates for
admission as well as for Hostel accommodation purposes.
Candidates getting less than the minimum prescribed marks in the Entrance Exam shall not qualify for
Admission to M.A. in Buddhist Studies.
Pattern of Entrance Exam :
1. The Entrance Exam to be conducted for admission to M.A. in Buddhist Studies shall consist of both
descriptive as well as objective type questions in the ratio of 60:40 respectively. Questions will be
drawn largely from the book 2500 years of Buddhism Edited by P. V. Bapat (ckS¼ /eZ ds 2500 o"kZ
laiknd ih ch ckiV). On the basis of this Entrance Exam result, a merit list shall be prepared by the
Department Admission Committee.

1. Note for candidates seeking Direct Admission:
(i) Please note that securing 60% (or above) in B.A. Honours from University of Delhi does not
automatically ensure admission or the availability of the colleges of your choice. Direct
Admission will be given on the basis of a separate Merit List and will be subject to the
availability of seats. Therefore, all candidates seeking Direct Admission are also strongly
advised to appear for the Entrance Test.
(ii) A candidate who secures Direct Admission will not be considered for admission through
Entrance Test (even if her name appears in the Merit List prepared on the basis of the
performance in the Entrance Test).
(iii) Notwithstanding (ii) above, a student who is shortlisted for both Direct Admission and
admission through Entrance Test will be allowed to exercise her choice in case such a choice

M.A. LINGUISTICS
All eligible candidates who apply for admission to the M.A. Linguistics course will be called for an
admission test to be conducted at the Department of Linguistics, University of Delhi, Delhi. On the basis
of their performance (with a minimum pass percentage of 40% in the admission test) candidates, (not
more than five times the number of seats available) in order of merit, will be called for an interview.
Candidates called for interview will be required to produce all their original certificates/degree, mark-
sheets of Secondary School, Senior Secondary, B.A./B.Sc. Pass or Honours and M.A. Examination etc.
and other connected documents for verification at the time of interview/admissions.
Admission Lists will be prepared on the basis of academic record (30% weightage) performance
in the admission test (50% weightage) and interview (20% weightage). For determaning the academic
record performance percentage of Bachelor Degree Examination or the Master’s Degree Examination,
whichever is best, will be taken into consideration. The decision of the Linguistics Department Admission
Committee will be final and binding on all the candidates.

Category-A
It was resolved that students of Delhi University who have done B.A. (Hons.) in Philosophy shall be

Category-B
For all others the eligibility for applying for admission shall be 50% in aggregate in the Bachelor Degree
(or qualifying examination) for open category candidates. In case of OBC candidates the eligibility criteria
shall be 45% in aggregate in the qualifying Examination

However, the admission test shall be conducted if and only if the number of applicants exceeds the

Admission procedure and entrance test:
1. The test will be conducted by the Department of Punjabi.
2. Apart from fulfilling the minimum eligibility requirements given in the list above, a candidate will have
to secure at least 40% marks in the entrance test to be eligible for admission which will be strictly
according to merit on the basis of the candidates perfomance in the written test.
3. There will be one common entrance test for the North Campus and Non- collegiate Women’s
Education Board (NCWEB). The test will be held in the Department of Punjabi, North Campus, Arts
Faculty Building.
4. Candidates seeking admission to MA (Punjabi) are required to register themselves at the Department
of Punjabi (North Campus) They should however, indicate their choice for the North Campus or
N.C.W.E.B. in order of preference, in. the column of the prescribed registration form.
5. Candidates seeking admission to the NCWEB under the Test category can register themselves at
the North Campus along with other candidates.
6. The candidates should affix duly attested copies of their recent photograph on the forms as well as
on the counterfoil of the form. These photograph should be signed by the candidates, the counterfoil
will be used as identification slip for the entrance test. No separate admission ticket ofthe entrance
test will be issued.
7. The admission test would be designed to test the candidates proficiency in Punjabi language including
comprehension and writing skills and their knowledge of Punjabi literature and its background. The test
would be in two parts. Part-I would consist largely of Objective Type Questions and Part-II of questions
requiring the candidates to write short notes or essays. The duration ofthe test would be 90 minutes.
M.A. SANSKRIT

B.A. (Hons.) Sanskrit of the University of Delhi , with minimum 60% marks.
